Decorative Binder Set Project

This is a little DIY project that requires few materials and just a little bit of creativity and patience - depending upon the image that you choose to use.

Materials Needed:
4+ Overlay Binders (sometimes called Clear Front binders) make sure you get the kind that has an insertable spine area. These binders also have an insertable front as well, so you can add other artwork if you'd like.

Xacto knife

Printed image of whatever you choose, the length and width will depend on how many binders you use and what their capacity (or spine width) is. You can either design something on your computer or you can find an interesting poster, map or wrapping paper with a large overall design.

How you do it:
Get your binders first and measure the spine width, then subtract about 1/4" - generally the insertable area is a little less than the actual width.

Take your printed image and divide by overall insertable spine width of all binders combined, divide that by the number of binders you have. For example, I used 6, 2-1/4" binders - so I needed my design to be 13-1/2" long total. Figure your height to be 11".

Cut out your strips and insert into binders.

A few tips - inserting the strips into the binders is easier if you make a sort of 'shoe horn' out of a piece of card stock cut down to about the size of the inserted slip. Having the extra rigidity helps it to slide into the place. Pull it back out after afterwards.

Also, I tried this with another design that had letters on it. If you want to make a set of binders for you business or company, it's best if a single letter doesn't cross over to the next binder (unless they're really large letters), as the flow isn't completely seamless and letters spanning two binders magnify this.
